What is a Misdemeanor? Misdemeanor crimes are classified into two (2) categories:
2nd Degree Misdemeanor which is the lowest or most minor offense is punishable by a maximum fine of $500.00, a maximum jail (County Jail) sentence of sixty (60) days, probation of up to six (6) months, community service and court costs.
1st Degree Misdemeanor which is the highest level
of misdemeanor which carries a maximum fine of $1,000.00, a maximum
jail (County Jail) sentence of one (1) year, probation of up to
one (1) year, community service, and court costs.

What is a Felony?
Felony offenses are classified as any crime where the maximum incarceration
(state prison) period is greater than one (1) year and are punishable as follows:
3rd Degree Felony is the lowest level felony
charge and carries a maximum of five (5) years state prison, $5,000.00 fine,
five (5) years supervised probation, court costs.
2nd Degree Felony is punishable by up to fifteen
(15) years state prison, $10,000.00 fine, fifteen (15) years supervised probation,
court costs.
1st Degree Felony carries a maximum of thirty
(30) years prison (in some cases more), $10,000.00 fine, probation, court costs. Tilden
